    • "According to notes from Louis Jack man's "History of the Courters of Illinois, Indiana and Elsewhere" William Courter, Jr. was born in Red Bank, N.J. in 1754. He was a Preacher of a reformed religion called "New Light." After the American Revolution he with his family, went west from Red Bank, N.J. with the early pioneers, preaching at settlements along the way, and along the Ohio River, among them Georgetown, PA and Big Bone Lick, Ky. He was in Georgetown, PA as early as 1790, and about 1800 in Big Bone Lick, Ky, which is across the Ohio River from Switzerland Co., Indiana.

After preaching trips down the Ohio he returned to Big Bone Lick, KY, where he died (probably after 1806), and was buried at the mouoth of Big Bone Creek.

When the Courter's went to Georgetown, PA it was a small frontier settlement 2 or 3 years old. He was laid out by George DDawson. I, G.W. Courter, visited Georgetown in the 1930's, but got no important information in the town or cemetery. "
